Broad Bean Aquadulce is an early-maturing, hardy variety perfect for sowing in autumn or spring. Known for its long pods filled with tender, flavourful beans, Aquadulce is ideal for fresh use or freezing. Its vigorous growth makes it a reliable choice, even in cooler conditions. A favourite among gardeners, this variety produces high yields and is great for both small and large gardens. Whether steamed, sautéed, or added to soups and stews, Broad Beans are a delicious and nutritious addition to any kitchen.
Best Planting Time for Broad Bean Aquadulce in the UK:
- Autumn Sowing: Sow outdoors from October to November for an early crop the following spring. This variety is cold-hardy and can withstand frosts.
- Spring Sowing: For a later crop, sow from February to April, once the soil can be worked.
Ideal Growing Conditions:
- Sunlight: Full sun for optimal growth.
- Soil: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter. Aim for a pH of 6.5 to 7.5.
- Spacing: Sow seeds 5-7 cm deep, spaced 20 cm apart, and leave 30-45 cm between rows.
Harvesting Tips:
- Pick beans when the pods are 15-20 cm long and the beans inside have filled out but are still tender.
- For continuous production, harvest regularly to encourage new pod growth.
